This page addresses frequently asked questions about:

How to buy

In order to buy gas from us, you need to open an account. This is because we supply your gas in our cylinders, dewars or vessels under a rental agreement. An account is not required for purchases of equipment and consumables.

Our Customer Service Centres can open an account, take your order, process your payment and answer your account, technical and safety queries. Our largest Customer Services Centres are available 24 hours, 7 days a week. The contact details for the Customer Service Centre in your country are shown on the right hand side of this page.

You can also open an account by visiting one of our retail stores or agents. Our retail stores stock a wide range of welding products, gas equipment, consumables and personal protection equipment. The Customer Service Centre can advise you of our nearest location.

Our businesses in the UK, Australia and South Africa offer on-line ordering from a comprehensive on-line catalogue. Links to these websites are available on the right hand side of this page and in Contact Us.

We offer a range of service packages including special delivery, on-line account management services, technical advice, process audits, safety audits and training.

Pricing

Please contact us for a quotation. Contact details for your country are provided on the right hand side of this page. We are not able to publish gas prices on our websites because:

  • Bulk gases are purchased under contract and volume discounts apply.
  • Special gas mixtures do not have published List Prices because of the huge number of bespoke recipes available.
  • Cylinder pressures and sizes vary according to the needs of the local market.
  • The units of volume in common usage  vary by country.
    • Standard cubic feet (scf) are used in North America.
    • Elsewhere standard cubic metres (sm3) are used. A sm3  defines  the number of gas molecules occupying a volume of a cubic metre at standard ambient temperature. However the standard ambient temperature used in different countries varies from 15o degrees to 25o degrees Celsius. Therefore the number of molecules in a sm3 varies in different parts of the world. This makes it difficult to publish useful information about cylinder sizes.

The choices you make about the volume of compressed gas storage and the frequency of delivery impact your total cost. We can help you to make decisions that will give the lowest total cost of gas supply.  We are committed to the use of multi-element pricing for our cylinder gases. We believe that this is the fairest way to charge because it gives you control over your costs.   You choose how many cylinders you wish to hold and how often we deliver. We will charge you separately for:

  • Gas molecules - a product charge / unit volume.
  • Gas storage - a rental charge for each cylinder.
  • Delivery - a charge per delivery.

Our sales and customer service staff will help you to determine the optimum combination of cylinder holdings and delivery frequency to achieve the lowest total cost.

Cylinder sizes

Please contact us to find out about the cylinder sizes available in your country. Contact details for your country are provided on the right hand side of this page. We are not able to publish cylinder capacity on this global website because:

  • We have a huge, diverse cylinder population - with over 18 million gas cylinders in circulation around the globe. Cylinder pressures are constantly being uprated to reduce the number of cylinders that our customers need to hold in stock and improve our logistics efficiency.
  • Therefore our range of cylinder sizes and filling pressures vary by product and by country.
  • A cylinder of the same physical dimensions filled to the same pressure holds a different number of gas molecules in different countries. To understand the reason we need to consider the ideal gas law which tells us that the number of molecules of gas in a container of given volume, at given pressure, is dependent upon the temperature.  The standards authorities in different countries have adopted different standard ambient temperature. So it is difficult to publish useful information about cylinder capacity on a global website.
