Leading edge technologies

We work with partners to transform leading edge technology into practical solutions:

• High temperature superconductive (HTS) cable – cooled by a cryogenic nitrogen core to improve the capacity and reliability of power grids.  A pilot project for the New York power grid will demonstrate the technical and commercial advantages of HTS in a live electric utility environment.
• Oxy-combustion –  a promising carbon capture technology in existing coal-fired power plants. The US Department of Energy has awarded BOC $6.1 million for a three year demonstration project.
• Sustainable energy – our projects include biogas, distributed generation and wind energy.
• Alternative fuels such as hydrogen fuel cells – our activity includes design of the storage system for hydrogen fuel cell powered cars.
